What is a psychoeducational assessment?

  • A way to better understand your child’s unique strengths and areas of challenge
  • This will inform recommendations for how best to support your child’s well-being and development
  • Based on your specific questions and concerns, we will choose the most appropriate assessment tools and techniques to learn about your child
  • This involves a comprehensive evaluation of your child’s skills and functioning in different areas
  • Standardized tests are used to assess thinking and reasoning (e.g., intellectual), academic (e.g., learning), memory, and information processing skills
  • We also seek to understand your child’s behaviour and how they function within relationships
  • Information about your child’s social and emotional well-being is gathered through interviews, questionnaires, observations, and a review of any relevant documents you provide to us

  • Meeting with your child or adolescent to share developmentally sensitive information about their strengths and areas that could benefit from added support
  • Comprehensive written report

What happens once the assessment process is complete?

  • We will share with you our understanding of how all of the information and results fit together
  • We will let you know about your child’s unique strengths and areas of challenge
  • When appropriate, a diagnosis may be provided (e.g., mental health diagnosis, Learning Disability, ADHD)
  • A thorough list of recommendations to help support your child and address your concerns will be provided
